FAQs
What is Creato and what do we do?
Creato is an organization dedicated to connecting, supporting and amplifying Latin American creators in Canada. We aim to foster an inclusive and forward-thinking community space by honouring the diverse expressions of Latin culture and creativity, and by creating collaborative opportunities with the creative sector in Canada at large. Whether it’s looking for job-related advice, inspiring their next project, or planning community programs or events, we aim to support and remove barriers Latine creatives often face in the sector through community-building, and resource sharing.
Where did the name Creato come from?
Creato is a combination of “create” in English and “crear” in Spanish, a nod to the way creatives in our community often shift between two languages and identities in Canada - ni de aqui, ni de alla! The “TO” in our name originally referred to Toronto as it is where Creato began, however this community is now Canada wide.
How can I connect with the Creato community?
You can connect with us on our Instagram page, @creato_community, on LinkedIn, and our online community hub on Slack, a messaging platform where we share job opportunities, events, resources, and other fun community chats! Folks are always welcome to message us should they need any help connecting with our online spaces, either via Instagram DM or our email, info@crea-to.com . You can also sign up for our newsletter to stay up to date with the comunidad at crea-to.com/newsletter !
How can I share my work with the Creato community?
Our Meet The Creator series has been our #1 tool where we shine a light on Latine creatives and their work, whether they have a wide portfolio of work or are emerging creators! You can apply to this initiative here. Our Slack online chat is also a great space to share what you’re working on and to reach out to others in the community that would like to connect with your work!
What kind of events and initiatives do you organize?
We organize in-person events and online spaces where community can meaningfully connect and share their creativity, such as Noche Bohemia: virtual art nights, and our Summer Picnics! Our biggest initiative yet is Project Crea, an arts entrepreneurship mentorship program where Latine youth creators learn skills to support and maintain their unique art practice. We hope to continue Project Crea in the coming 2023 year!
How can I participate with Creato?
If you have an idea, initiative or event you’d like to develop with us or see amplified, reach out! We are always happy to connect via our Instagram or email. As a volunteer-run group, we always welcome new volunteers to support Creato and Latine creatives in Canada!
